Crude Awakening

January 24, 2007

Do you know what tires, tennis rackets, trash bags and tooth paste are made of? They are all made out of ” Texas tea”-crude oil or liquid petroleum. About 1.7 trillion barrels of oil are discovered. The other 900 billion barrels of oil are undiscovered. Also the oil already provides 40 percent of the worlds energy. Fast developing nations such as China and India are putting escalating demands on global supply. The United States has only 4 percent of the earth’s population but guzzles about 25 percent of it’s oil supply. Roberts call the United States “energy illiiterate” because most Americans consider conserving energy only when faced with price hikes at the gas pumps.

King Ataturk letter

January 16, 2007

Dear Samantha,

When our new king, King Ataturk was our new president he made some changes. One change he made was the alphabet. Another change he made was the hats the men wore. Also he changed the hats the woman wore. If he didn’t change these things they would have kept on going till the 20th century. World War 1 led to serious damages like the breakup of the
Ottoman Empire. I am a citizen of
Turkey and the year is 1938. Our town has many cool things. One thing
Turkey has is candy called Turkish delight.
Turkey has over 4,000 shops. One shop has an item called the evil eye. The evil eye keeps away bad luck to people.
Turkey does not like human or animal creatures in their art. Men used to wear hats called fezzes. Woman used to wear hats called veils. Fezzes are hats that the men in
Turkey used to wear when they were in the prayer tower. Veils are hats that woman in
Turkey used to wear to cover their faces.
